Awesome!
Dr. LeAnn Morris
27:22
Yes, Educators SpaceCamp at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL is amazing!
Candyce Monroe
28:15
It truly is an amazing experience!
James Emley
28:39
I have attended the Honeywell Educator Academy and also the Honeywell Green Boot Camp in San Diego. Both incredible! There are also incredible scientific cadres with the "Teachers in Space" organization. There are great role playing experiences teachers can bring back into the classroom..
Joe Diaz
29:01
TIL there's an educator space camp 😮
Serena Cox
29:34
I participated in the Honeywell Green Boot Camp and it was a fabulous experience and a highlight of my educational career.
Serena Cox
29:50
Love this image your are sharing
James Emley
30:13
It truly was, Serena! Unforgettable and a phenomenal company that treats educators like rockstars.
Katherine Grunewald
33:09
Such a great question to reflect on! Will be thinking on this especially as we’ve been 100% distance learning the entire year
Candyce Monroe
34:52
I have been doing this with my teachers and they love it!
Cody Kikuta
35:46
Agreed! The why creates credibility and buy in. Compliance vs commitment
Sylvia Quigley
36:41
Challenge of teachers questioning how long will this training be applicable? Will this information be useful next year?
Lynn Wasilewski
37:15
@Sylvia, I hear that all the time..lol
Cammie Kannekens
37:57
A powerful list!
Priscila Miller
38:22
Don’t drink coffee… was thinking Time Out Tea with a Techie - sounds like we are going to spread rumors o_O
Cody Kikuta
38:22
@sylvia The why we “stop” is just as important as “why” we start. I found explaining why we stop is just as powerful as when we launch
Sylvia Quigley
38:23
@lynn with districts changing systems and apps it is difficult to get the buy in.
Katherine Grunewald
38:30
I love those first two questions, amplifying and acknowledging teacher voice and choice!
Joe Diaz
38:50
This pulse check would also make for a great assessment sheet for students!
Priscila Miller
39:04
Agree @Sylvia - Ts need to know that the tools are staying to invest time
Brian L Nolen
39:23
Teachers are spoken word impartation leaders. Teachers cannot ever presume that what lesson was delivered was understood as intended. That is the nature of how students and parents think. School leadership needs feedback to gauge effectiveness.
James Emley
39:28
Looking for support information how to reach students that have technology at home but have yet to engage with distance learning. I'm really interested to understand techniques to develop intrinsic motivation within students who are disengaged at home.
Sylvia Quigley
39:35
@priscilla - Time out Tea with a Tech - LOVE LOVE LOVE! As a tea drinker and instructional coach/faculty director, this is great!
Jennifer Hegna
40:36
LOVE this….
Cammie Kannekens
41:44
In the spring I did “Tech Tips in 20” (as in 20 min) — around morning “break” time - I had several teachers who came all of the time because they craved the connection…. And didn’t mind the tech
Cody Kikuta
42:50
@cammie great idea!!
Brian L Nolen
43:04
Should senior citizens be hired to teach and support students toward their path to the higher education institution path?
Elise van der Zee
43:13
I know that Google is the most common, is anyone else in a Microsoft district?
Priscila Miller
44:57
I have virtual drop-ins for one of my buildings that doesn’t have a tech team. I have a 20 minute topic too @cammie but I’m offering it during their prep. They can pop in and ask their own questions or learn something with me live via Zoom. I got some regulars but sometimes I go through a prep with no one. I make a list of projects to work on to be productive in the silence.
Gaby Richard-Harrington
45:33
@Priscilla +1 I do that too…
Lynn Wasilewski
46:54
I have office hours for teacher check-in. Teachers have so much on their plates right now, they are overwhelmed.
Jen Kassimer
47:00
love the descriptor receiver-centric
Priscila Miller
47:04
I was so excited about one topic I had scheduled and only 1 teacher attended :,(
Katherine Grunewald
47:25
@Priscilla, I’ve been there too! It’s tough
Mahfuza Rahman
47:41
@Lynn - are those check-ins one-to-one?
Jennifer Girardin
48:01
Thank you!! Time for reflection and absorption of information is SO important!
Wendy Cannon
48:03
Getting teachers interested in using their limited time for new learning is really tough right now
Priscila Miller
48:05
It is hard to get the team to work live virtually. The majority of my teachers just want to attend and absorb.
Priscila Miller
48:17
AMEN Nathan!
Charlotte Christensen
48:22
Yes!!!!
Sylvia Quigley
48:31
We have a virtual district office hours Wed and Thur 2:30-5 pm with drop in breakout rooms by topic/department. Use the questions asked to guide need for full training sessions
Katherine Grunewald
48:36
This has been something I’ve been thinking on a lot this year
Leigh Zeitz
48:59
You are suggesting building in Reflection during PLC meetings. What does this reflection look like?
mark picketts
49:00
thank you Nathan - I have to bounce to admin meeting but will check out the recording. If I can get the feedback survey (picketts@hamlin.org) will more than happily fill it out!! gratefully, m
Gaby Richard-Harrington
49:06
They can check in with me exactly when they feel most overwhelmed. I often talk through something with them or tweet something that didn’t work as well as hoped… then they are not alone and the feeling of being overwhelmed is lightened a bit...
Charlotte Christensen
49:10
I agree—we do not need to/should not need to lead all PLC meetings—work to develop teacher capacity for doing this
Sylvia Quigley
49:19
Sage on the stage vs guide on the side model
Lynn Wasilewski
49:33
@Mahfuza , they are open Google meets that anyone can join and ask q’s to vent.
Angela Johnson
49:38
Love relinquishing duties…
Priscila Miller
49:45
@Sylvia Is your school day over at 2:30
Leigh Zeitz
49:50
I am also really impressed with the graphics he is including in his presentation. How did he create those?
Mahfuza Rahman
50:09
@Lynn - thanks! Trying to figure out how to do something like this for our district!
Sylvia Quigley
51:17
@priscilla Wed is short day(PD day) but some Middle school run later. I am district level trainer (90 schools) and primary support for 17 schools.
Simon Helton (he/him) - ISTE
51:34
17 schools, Sylvia?!
Lynn Wasilewski
51:39
@Mahfuza it is a great way to give teachers a chance to “vent”, ask quick questions or just have a sense of community to talk. But sometimes I am in the meeting with just myself. boo hoo
Elise van der Zee
52:16
@Sylvia is a Rockstar tech person!
Mary Mehsikomer
52:19
Dr. Lang-Raad will you share the link to your audit tool?
Lynn Wasilewski
52:57
BE Yourself is so important..thanks!
Priscila Miller
53:00
AHHH @Sylvia you’re amazing for juggling all that!
Sylvia Quigley
53:24
Yes, 17 elem, K-8, Middle, and high schools. Mainly Clever, Zoom, and O365 training but also support testing, all instructional tech needs (Promethan/Smart boards/doc cams). AM district PM for Clever training
Rachel Thompson
53:51
Thank you! This was fabulous and so informative!
HelenaMarie Stevens
53:57
Where to purchase your book info again, please
Priscila Miller
54:00
Phew, that makes me appreciate my 5 buildings in a district
Sylvia Quigley
54:18
Department of 5 who support the 90 schools . Each of us has a region of assigned schools.
Chris Johnson
54:21
Have to leave for another meeting. We have 145 signed up for tomorrow
James Emley
54:23
I also feel it's important to create some type of hook activity, whether it's a physical activity, a friendly competitive game, a leadership activity, or even a "field trip" for teachers to get them away from the school. Changing the scene is important to maintain a "fresh" scenario to illicit conversation.
Brigitte McCawley
54:30
Great info…Thanks!
Cristina Alvayay
54:37
Thank you
Sylvia Quigley
54:39
I am inspired by this presentation!
Ingrid Gustafson
54:50
Any ideas for PD for teachers who are experiencing serious Zoom fatigue?
Brian Whitson
55:04
What can we do to better support teacher mental wellbeing during this time?
Gaby Richard-Harrington
55:14
we dislike when students ask this!! LOL@
Mike Vigilant
55:16
Would love to hear how you're adapting these strategies to the pandemic - for example, no in-person meetings at my location.
Katerine Albarellos
55:27
So much info in such a short presentation thank you 🙏
Cheyenne Gazmen-Stook
55:34
How do I convince Admin that teachers who prepare and present PD during a breakout session is PD in itself?
Brian L Nolen
55:38
Is there a place for over 65's in a schools environment?
Wendy Heyd
55:42
Nathan - a great presentation very-well delivered. Spot on in the content and visuals were supportive. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Deborah Kerby
55:44
I think the training would be relevant as long as you find it still works in your classroom.
Candyce Monroe
55:55
I have standing virtual office hours. I call them Coffee with Candyce.
Cyndy Harrison
55:56
@Brian investigate The Present Teacher https://www.presentteacher.com/ She is amazing!
Shelley Johnson
56:02
I would love to hear more ideas/activities to help get teachers excited about remote learning.
Danna Hailfinger
56:03
reminds me of that 'inquiry' part - How might this support you when we return to classrooms? How might this strategy be applicable in the long term?
Angela Johnson
56:06
Sylvia I am in a district with 137 schools and 6 Edtech Coaches…I know your pain. I am learning to pull others in.
Irene Orozco
56:15
? Which book will you recommend as a Coach I should start with The Teachers of OZ or the Everyday Instructional Coaching?
Kindra Sabado
56:17
How do we diplomatically suggest these strategies to our administration so they use them as well?
Joe Diaz
56:22
Thanks for this Dr. Lang-Raad! What I'm noticing is that many of the strategies you outlined are also wonderful practices for working with students themselves. What other best practices and strategies from the classroom would you recommend for coaching, particularly with educators who might be "less than motivated"?
Sylvia Quigley
56:38
from Sylvia - LIke your reply. Need leadership support and understanding of training challenges
Debbie Martin
56:43
It can be so hard to get teachers to attend optional training. So disappointing when you do a lot of prep for a fun training session and have no one or just 1-2 to share it with.
Lynn Wasilewski
57:20
@Debbie, I know that feeling.
HELEN BLANCH
57:41
Can we get a copy of the Presentation Slides?
Sheri Lenzo
57:52
@Debbie, that is all too familiar… happens too often
Wendy Cannon
58:07
@Debbie That is the issue with me as well! Teachers answered surveys on what and when they wanted to learn more about then they don’t come to sessions
Deborah Kerby
58:14
@Debbie I have found that in my building the short videos can be the most helpful … they can look at the videos when it fits in their schedule.
James Emley
58:19
Are there coaches out there in districts creating leadership PD's for teachers that are 1) Socially Distant, 2) on location, and 3) highly successful to increase collaboration?
Mary Mehsikomer
58:26
There are some great techniques for mindfulness/calm/stress reduction here: https://www.presentteacher.com/
Perla Zamora
58:32
We do that Mindful Moment 15 minutes before each PD, it is an optional invitation
Kim Goode
58:40
I remind them of the 20-20-20
Brian L Nolen
58:42
I have not finished my work (helping others) on earth yet. I was a coach. and feel a need to do this again. Will younger school district leadership see value in life experience.? I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for 29 years.
Mary Mehsikomer
58:51
There are some great techniques for mindfulness/calm/stress reduction here: https://www.presentteacher.com/
Brigitte McCawley
59:02
I totally agree with James on “teacher fields.” I took my PLC group to tour a 21st Century manufacturing environment, instead of taking students. This allowed them to see what they are actually preparing students for…It was a very successful experience and outcome for the teachers. That, in turn, produced a better outcome for their students through those teachers designing meaningful, real-world learning experiences!
Lynn Wasilewski
59:17
I like the idea of the short videos.
Wendy Cannon
59:18
Admins don’t attend this PD
Sylvia Quigley
59:26
Have great program TTL - Teacher Technology liaison with at least one per school. They understand the pulse of their school and can coordinate with me as region lead. They also are main POC for teacher sat their sites
Perla Zamora
59:28
How could we convince our admin team that offering strategies to teachers is “not to much new”?
HelenaMarie Stevens
59:48
ewdweb.net has some great sessions on supporting teachers mental health/SEL
